Susan M

My journey at JMT began as an Intern in the Water Resources Department. During this time I gained experience doing design work on real projects. I've interned at other companies but the internship program at JMT stood out because it was well organized and allowed me the opportunity to learn about the role of other disciplines throughout the company. I was unsure how my degree in Biological Systems Engineering would apply in such a large design firm, but I knew I wanted to be part of the Company because I witnessed how much JMT valued their employees.

Later, I was offered a full time Design Engineer position in the Water Resources Department. Returning to JMT has been great and having gained practical design and CADD experience as an Intern, I was able to jump right into working on exciting projects. I am taking my education to the next level with more in-depth design projects. One of the best things about this position is being able to go into the field and gain experience hands on. Some of the projects I have been working on are Storm Water Management BMP inspections along the Intercounty Connector (ICC), drainage design, hydrology/hydraulics on Howard County projects and the 11th Street Design Build Project in Washington, DC. I've also had the pleasure to work on SWM Retrofit design in Anne Arundel and Prince George's counties.

I am encouraged to develop my career and enhance my education through training and mentoring from senior members of my department. The most recent training I received was Confined Space training, which will prepare me for future projects at JMT. I enjoy being part of the JMT community and I am excited about my future here.
