Dan Cheng Receives ASCE MD Meritorious Service Award

Daniel T. Cheng, PE received the award for Meritorious Service from the American Society of Civil Engineering, Maryland Section (ASCE) for more than 40 years of commitment to the improvement and safety of public works infrastructure in Maryland, through his leadership within JMT and involvement in numerous professional societies.
Dan currently serves as an Executive Vice President of JMT, as well as chief marketing officer, chairman of JMT’s ESOP board of trustees, and a member of the board of directors. In August 2016, Dan will celebrate 35 years with JMT. For the past two decades, he has served as JMT’s chief marketing officer. He is a well-known advocate for quality in the engineering profession, and continues to encourage students to pursue careers in engineering.
In addition to his professional expertise as a civil engineer, Dan has provided countless hours of volunteer time to promote civil engineering through his participation in professional societies and committees. He served the ASCE Maryland Section as committee chairman, director, treasurer, vice president, and president. He received the Maryland Section’s Civil Engineer of the Year award in 2002, and he was honored as a Life Member in 2014.
Through the years, Dan has held to a philosophy that engineers and engineering are critical to Maryland’s infrastructure and therefore its prominence. He is active in Engineers Week each February, schedules shadowing opportunities for middle and high school students to learn about the profession, promotes scholarships and internships for high school and college students, and leads efforts to encourage young engineers within JMT and throughout the community to participate in professional societies and give back to the industry and public.
