North Gayton Road CM/CI

Location: Henrico County, Virginia Client: Henrico County

JMT worked as part of a team to provide construction inspection services for a design-build roadway project.

JMT, as a subconsultant, performed construction management and inspection services for a major new roadway on North Gayton Road in western Henrico County.  This was the first locally funded, locally administered, non-VDOT, design-build transportation project in Virginia, and it was implemented under the state's Public-Private Transportation Act.

Representing the owner, JMT provided independent construction inspection of 2.2 miles of six-lane and four-lane urban roadway on new alignment.  The project included turn lanes, crossovers, multi-use paths, a new two-span continuous plate girder bridge and retaining walls on piles over I-64, three major drainage structures, multi-use trail, signalization of two major intersections and four minor intersections, installation of two precast arch structures at stream crossings, 1178' of MSE wall up to 35' in height, and numerous residential and business entrances. The scope included acquisition of right-of-way and utility relocations.

JMT provided comprehensive construction inspection and quality assurance services throughout the life of the project.   Our staff conducted field reviews; provided phased inspection of the construction to insure conformance with plans, specifications, and other contract documents;  checked the line, grade, and dimensions of roadway, bridge, drainage, and other elements of the project; inspected the placement and maintenance of temporary erosion control measures and maintenance of traffic items; conducted semi-final/final inspection, and prepared punch lists.

The work was performed in conformance with VDOT quality control/quality assurance requirements and certifications for Design-Build and Public-Private Transportation Act projects.
