SR 826/SR 836 Interchange Reconstruction

Location: Miami, Florida Client: Florida Department of Transportation, District 6

JMT performed construction engineering and inspection services for the reconstruction of the SR 826/836 interchange in Miami.

The SR 826 (Palmetto Expressway)/SR 836 (Dolphin Expressway) interchange is used by more than 430,000 motorists each day.  Reconstruction of the interchange is the final and largest of 12 segments comprising a 16-mile corridor along SR 826.  The purpose of the $559 million project is to enhance safety, increase capacity, and improve the efficiency of motorists using the interchange.  JMT (as GBF) is supporting the construction engineering and inspection (CEI) efforts as a subconsultant.

Capacity improvements include the reconstruction and widening of both SR 826 and SR 836, the construction of approximately 45 new bridges, and the reconstruction/modifications of the Flagler Street/SR 826 and the Milam Dairy/NW 72nd Avenue/SR 836 interchanges.

This project will provide new collector-distributor (CD) ramps, which provide direct connectivity for motorists to access their designated exit without having to access the expressway. Other improvements include the relocation of the canal between NW 6th Street and NW 16th Street, as well as installing a new drainage system to treat roadway runoff. New traffic signals, lighting, and overhead electronic devices providing up-to-date traffic advisories will be provided.

JMT is currently providing CEI services with key positions that include Project Engineer/Project Administrator and Senior Inspector.
