Towson Fire Station

Location: Baltimore County, Maryland Client: Baltimore County Property Management

Architecture for a state-of-the-art fire station designed for LEED® Silver certification.

Rubeling & Associates, a JMT Division, served as the architect and interior designer for a new, 19,700-square-foot Fire Station #1 in Towson.  The design included five bays for emergency vehicles and a two-story wing with 12 dorm rooms, kitchen, storage and meeting spaces.

The design featured a brick veneer exterior, steel and Dryvit accents, second floor precast concrete plank, and combination bearing wall and steel frame.  LEED® certification elements included low flow plumbing fixtures, mechanical systems using 21% less energy, and a vegetation tray green roof.

Site improvements at this location included a new traffic signal and modifications to the median strip.

The project was commended for being designed and constructed for less money than the revenue generated from the former Fire Station #1 property sale, thereby resulting in no cost to County residents.
