From September 26-27, 2024, Hurricane Helene swept through the Southeast, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake.

Some of the most unexpected and devastating losses occurred in the mountains on the Western edge of North Carolina and the Eastern edge of Tennessee. Whole communities were wiped out and critical infrastructure was destroyed. Residents found themselves stranded without electricity or water.

We often say that JMT cares, and that’s because it’s true. We are members of these communities, and many of our employee owners who do not live in the region have friends, family, and colleagues who were impacted by the storm.

As one, we leapt into action to provide relief to our JMT team members and their families who lived in some of the hardest-hit areas. Employee owners from across the country sent necessary supplies, and our unaffected offices closest to the region mobilized to distribute those supplies to those in need. Other team members joined search and rescue teams and helped to clear roads in the days and weeks following the storm.

Now, we turn our attention to rebuilding the Western NC and Eastern TN region.

Repairing and replacing damaged and destroyed roadways is urgently needed to restore safe and reliable travel through the region. To that end, JMT is seeking to work with the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) to complete construction and inspection work along numerous highway corridors.

This work will require many willing hands, and we have new opportunities to get involved in this vital effort. See the job descriptions above for more information on available openings to join our team; these roles include opportunities for training and certification in construction inspection for those new to the field.

Join us, and let’s rebuild these communities, together.
