JMT and Pioneer Holdings (PHI) are proud to announce they are combining. JMT, ranked #51 among the Engineering News-Record Top 500 Design Firms, provides engineering/architecture and related consulting services to a variety of clients in the public and private sectors. JMT is a 100% employee-owned company headquartered in Hunt Valley, Maryland, with a staff of 1,600 employees across the United States.

PHI, another 100% employee-owned company, is the parent company of Vaughn & Melton Consulting Engineers (V&M) and Tunnel Management, Inc. (TMI). As such, each of these firms is part of the new combined JMT structure.

V&M has a significant presence across the Southeast United States including Kentucky, Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia. They provide many of the same civil engineering and surveying services as JMT.

TMI operates and maintains the Cumberland Gap Tunnel located on US-25E between Kentucky and Tennessee.

The combined total of these two companies will bring nearly 300 additional employees.

PHI President and CEO David T. Harrell, PE, remarked, “It’s an exciting time for PHI and its subsidiaries. Not only do our current clients in North and South Carolina gain immediate access to JMT’s services and staff, we also increase our capabilities to serve the entire Southeast.”

JMT President Jack Moeller, PE, said, “The match in corporate cultures is key. We are so impressed with the way PHI’s employee owners treat their customers and each other. We think this will be an excellent fit.”

These two 100% ESOP companies will join forces at the end of 2021, creating a combined company with approximately 1,900 employee owners.
