Jim O’Connor, Senior Vice President and Transportation Business Line Leader at JMT, launched the firm’s first South Carolina operations in 2013 and has driven major infrastructure initiatives across all transportation modes. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from The Citadel and a Master of Science in Structural Engineering from Rutgers University.
As a chartered engineer in Ireland and licensed PE in multiple U.S. states, Jim leads complex, high-value projects in highways, bridges, ports, marine facilities, and aviation, bringing deep expertise in both design and delivery. His career spans transformative efforts—from early work on Boston’s Big Dig to pioneering resilient infrastructure projects in South Carolina, including leadership on the innovative Low Battery seawall. His contributions earned him ASCE’s South Carolina Engineer of the Year (2020) and recognition as an ACEC Fellow.
