JMT joined city and state officials, accessibility advocates, and the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) on Friday, October 24, to celebrate the ribbon-cutting of the newly renovated Tasker-Morris Station on the Broad Street Line. The event marked the completion of a significant accessibility improvement project that enhances safety, convenience, and inclusivity for all riders.

JMT was proud to lead this transformative $19 million accessibility and state-of-good-repair project, providing civil, traffic, structural, and MEP engineering services. Sowinski Sullivan Architects served as the architectural designer, while GFT provided vertical transportation design services.

The multi-year project, which began in June 2022 and reached completion in June 2025, delivers full ADA accessibility with new elevators connecting the street, mezzanine, and platform levels.

Additional station improvements include upgraded stairs, fare line, and wayfinding and safety signage; new electrical and lighting systems; ADA-compliant communication system upgrades; ADA-compliant guardrails and handrails; an ADA-accessible employee restroom; and modern security systems designed to improve safety and enhance the passenger experience.

Key members of the JMT project team included Michael Grabenstein, Project Manager; Andrew Budzynski, Architectural Designer; and Corey Hull, PE, Philadelphia Assistant Office Leader. JMT provided both preliminary and final engineering for the station’s modernization, focusing on enhanced safety, improved operational efficiency, and increased customer convenience.

Through this project, JMT collaborated closely with Sowinski Sullivan Architects and Gannett Fleming to support SEPTA’s ongoing ten-year initiative to make all Broad Street Line stations accessible. The Tasker-Morris Station improvements represent an important step forward in ensuring equitable, safe, and reliable transportation for all members of the Philadelphia community.
