JMT Celebrates Completion of St. James Academy Middle School Renovation and Addition

JMT Architecture recently completed the renovation and addition of the middle school at St. James Academy in Monkton, MD, helping transform the learning environment into a modern, flexible space designed to support 21st-century education.

The project included a complete renovation of the existing middle school wing and a two-story classroom addition featuring a new art classroom, makerspace, and upgraded building systems. Interior improvements refreshed classrooms, corridors, the academic center, and student commons, creating collaborative spaces that support both learning and community.

A highlight of the project is the new student commons, a flexible gathering space designed to encourage interaction and engagement, along with updated circulation areas that establish a cohesive identity throughout the middle school.

Delivered on an accelerated 10-week summer construction schedule, the renovation project was completed in time to welcome students back for the new school year.
