ACEC Chapters Recognize Numerous JMT Projects

Several JMT projects were recently honored by multiple chapters of the American Council of Engineering Companies.
The SR 1/SR 72 Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI) design-build project won big at the ACEC/DE and ACEC/MD Engineering Excellence Awards, winning a Conceptor Award and Outstanding Project Award, respectively.
JMT was lead designer for Delaware’s first DDI, which improved traffic operations and safety. JMT was responsible for coordinating all the engineering disciplines and executing the design and QA/QC program. We met the aggressive, fast-tracked schedule by using a rolling design package submittal process that allowed certain elements to progress early.
MD 195 Over Sligo Creek Parkway also won an ACEC/MD Outstanding Project Award. The reconstruction of the 80-year-old concrete arch bridge in Montgomery County was a tremendous success, involving a partnership among the SHA, designer of record JMT, contractor Kiewit Infrastructure, and the community of Takoma Park. The bridge was re-opened to traffic 26 days ahead of the 350-calendar-day closure that had been scheduled, with modern accommodations for pedestrians and bicyclists and safer travel for motorists while retaining the structure’s historic character.
ACEC/NJ recognized our work on the County Route 518 over the Delaware & Raritan Canal Bridge Replacement project with a Distinguished Award, which will be awarded at the organization’s banquet on March 14. JMT designed a single-span, prestressed concrete replacement bridge in Somerset County that was constructed on an accelerated 22-day schedule. We also provided full-time construction inspection services as well as an on-site archeologist.
