ACEC-DE Recognizes Two JMT Delaware Projects with Awards

ACEC-Delaware recently honored two JMT projects with 2017 Engineering Excellence Awards at the organization’s annual Engineers Week Banquet.
JMT received the organization’s second highest honor, a Conceptor Award, for the Garfield Parkway Improvements project in Bethany Beach, DE. JMT worked with DelDOT and the Town of Bethany Beach to improve Garfield Parkway (SR 26) from Coastal Highway (SR 1) to Atlantic Avenue, the main thoroughfare bisecting the town’s central business district. The project’s goal was to provide results that better accommodated pedestrians, bicycles, and vehicles, while enhancing the aesthetics of the roadway and streetscape. JMT performed the initial planning studies and continued through final design, which included the design of the roadway, ADA-compliant sidewalks and crosswalks, signing and striping, roadway and pedestrian lighting, and maintenance and protection of traffic, in addition to providing cost estimates.
JMT also picked up one of ACEC’s four Honor Awards for our work on the Chesapeake and Delaware (C&D) Canal Recreation Trail in New Castle County, DE. For this project, JMT worked on behalf of more than a dozen federal, state, county, and municipal agencies to provide a broad range of engineering and support services for the planning and final design of the 12-mile-long Delaware portion of the C&D Trail. The trail connects local businesses with new visitors and provides a critical link between communities across Delaware into Maryland. The trail’s completion has brought Delaware one step closer to its vision of a statewide trails network and advances the state’s goal of becoming the most bicycle-friendly state in the country.
