Fairfax County Parkway Project Wins Design-Build Award
JMT’s work on the Fairfax County Parkway (Phases I, II and IV) won the Merit Award under the “Transportation Projects” category at the 2013 Design-Build Conference and Expo November 4-6 in Las Vegas.
JMT was lead designer for three sections of the Fairfax County Parkway, totaling $112 million in improvements. The fast-tracked Design-Build project provided regional access with a link to I-95 and helped alleviate the impact on traffic from the U.S. Army relocating 8,500 jobs to the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency Campus East at the Fort Belvoir North Area.
The three-day event included several workshops led by experts in the field, an opening keynote speech from Cal Ripken, Jr., and a closing keynote speech from boxing legend Sugar Ray Leonard.
The Design-Build Institute of America, which held its 20th Expo this year, defines, teaches and promotes best practices in design-build. The event is one of the largest gatherings for the design-build market.
