JMT Project Wins National Roadway Safety Award
The Wilton Drive complete street implementation in Wilton Manors, FL, completed under the Broward Metropolitan Planning Organization‘s complete streets master plan, was one of seven projects awarded the 2021 National Roadway Safety Award in the “Program Planning, Development and Evaluation” category.
The biennial awards program is sponsored jointly by the Federal Highway Administration and the Roadway Safety Foundation, a nonprofit educational and charitable organization.
Wilton Drive saw a 66% decrease in bicycle and pedestrian crashes and a 75% reduction in severe-injury and fatal crashes by replacing a vehicular travel lane in each direction with buffered bike lanes, mid-block crossing medians, wider sidewalks, better lighting, and other improvements.
JMT served as the owner’s representative, assisting with design changes and RFIs with respect to the original plans, extensive stakeholder coordination, complex traffic detours, field reviews, shop drawing reviews, and frequent communication with the contractor.
Congratulations to the Broward MPO, our team members, and all the other award winners!
