JMT Receives Three MdQI Honors
At the 19th Annual Maryland Quality Initiative (MdQI) Conference held on February 1-2, 2012, JMT was selected by a panel of industry judges to receive Awards of Excellence for three of our projects. Nominations for these projects were made by various Maryland Department of Transportation agencies. MdQI is Maryland’s transportation forum made up of Agencies, Consultants, Contractors and Material Suppliers. This year’s conference was attended by over 800 people who represent Maryland’s transportation industry.
Kirk Bus Division Modernization Project, Baltimore, MD (Award of Excellence – Planning)
JMT, in joint venture, is providing architectural, civil, mechanical, and electrical design for the Maryland Transit Administration. An aging open air bus facility will be replaced with a new $65 million enclosed building complex, including a 15 bay, 100,000 square foot bus maintenance facility and a 200,000 square foot, 175 bus storage and operations facility. This project is being designed to meet LEED Silver criteria and is on track for construction advertisement in the near future.
Reconstruction of MD 462 from MD 132 to Bridge over Carsins Run, Harford County, MD (Award of Excellence – Partnering – Silver)
This project involved resurfacing and rehabilitation of nearly one mile of MD 462 (Paradise Road) in the Town of Aberdeen. After final review design documents had been submitted by another consultant, the client (Maryland State Highway Administration [SHA]) requested significant changes to be completed quickly by JMT, including adjusting the project limits to incorporate an intersection reconstruction and to alter this Fund 77 “book job” project to become a Fund 68 “stimulus funds” project. JMT worked closely with our MBE design partner to complete the final plans within an expedited schedule to meet SHA’s schedule for “stimulus” projects. JMT partnered with the SHA’s contractor during construction to address any issues that arose. JMT also partnered with SHA Office of Construction and the contractor to incorporate additional sidewalk improvements at SHA’s request that improved ADA compliance and pedestrian facilities near a high school. Finally, this project required coordination with an adjacent SHA construction project.
BWI Marshall Airport Intersection of Runways 10-28 and 15-33L (Maryland Department of Transportation Modal Award of Excellence)
This Maryland Aviation Administration program and its initial projects, including the rehabilitation of the Intersection of Runways 10-28 and 15R-33L, are once-in-a-generation efforts. As the Program Manager, JMT was responsible for orchestrating the effort and maintaining the focus of all of the participants through multiple conceptual iterations. Successful execution required more than two years of constant coordination with a myriad of stakeholders, precision adherence to conceptual designs, phasing, and budgets, innovative design approaches, and an unwavering focus on safety.
