Lights Turned On Along W&OD Trail in Herndon
The Town of Herndon, Virginia celebrated the illumination of its section of the Washington & Old Dominion Trail on the evening of September 9, 2014. Several members of JMT, who designed the lighting system along the trail, attended the ceremony. The Mayor of Herndon, members of the Herndon Town Council and members of the Fairfax County Supervisors and the Virginia Delegation were also in attendance to witness the “flipping of the switch” to energize the lights between Van Buren Street and Ferndale Avenue through the heart of downtown Herndon.
JMT designed the system with metal halide fixtures to allow for full nighttime visibility for trail users. The system was also designed to accommodate LED fixtures when the use of such fixtures becomes economically feasible for the Town.
