I-95 Toll Plaza Stairs Replacement

To address safety concerns, JMT was asked by the Delaware Department of Transportation and Delaware Transit Corporation to design the replacement of access stairs for employees at the I-95 toll plaza.

The stairs provide staff access to toll booths at the plaza. The existing stairs did not meet code and presented the potential for unsafe conditions.

The project included an in-depth structural inspection of the walls to determine required repairs. Wall details were prepared for concrete slab crack, vertical crack and surface, and surface spalling repairs. At the top of the stairs, walls and a partial cover were designed to reduce exposure to weather and snow entering the stairwell during plowing. A bollard was added for protection along with handrails.
