JMT received multiple awards at the annual Engineering Excellence Awards dinners held recently by five American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) chapters: ACEC/Virginia, ACEC/Metro Washington, ACEC/Maryland, ACEC/Delaware, and ACEC/Pennsylvania.

11th Street Corridor Design/Build, Washington, DC

JMT received two awards:

The 11th Street Bridges Project, Phase 1 received the 2014 Grand Award from ACEC/MD, beating out 11 short-listed (and more than two dozen total) competitor entries. ACEC/MW also recognized the project with an Honor Award for Transportation Design.

JMT is the lead designer working with the Skanska/Facchina contractor team for this $351 million-Design/Build project.  It is the largest construction project ever undertaken by the District Department of Transportation.  Phase 2 is underway and expected to be completed in 2015.

Telegraph Road Park & Ride, Prince William County, VA

JMT received two Merit Awards in the Small Projects Category, one from ACEC/MW and the other from ACEC/VA.

JMT designed a park and ride lot on a fast-tracked basis that provided: 553 parking spaces; bus loop and shelters; sidewalks, crosswalks, bicycle racks and lockers and benches; direct access for buses and I-95 HOV lane users; and accommodations for Phase 2 improvements of Telegraph Road from a two-lane to four-lane divided urban minor arterial roadway with a wide median, sidewalk, and shared use path.  A “test bed” for LED luminaires was also designed to illuminate the facility using fixtures from six manufacturers.

Elkton Road Corridor Study & Design, Newark, DE

ACEC/DE honored the Elkton Road project as the overall second place finisher in the competition with its Conceptor Award.

JMT initially provided DelDOT with a planning and operations study of the Elkton Road corridor in Newark and was later selected to provide final design services for the stretch of four-lane roadway from Casho Mill Road to Delaware Avenue.  Challenges included supporting industrial truck traffic while providing safe access for high volumes of bicyclists and pedestrians near the University of Delaware campus.

JMT received Diamond Award certificates from ACEC/PA for the following projects:

Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, Pike County, PA

This Design-Build project involved the superstructure replacement and substructure rehabilitation and strengthening for the Raymondskill Creek Bridge located in the National Park Service’s scenic Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area.

Gettysburg Transportation Management Plan, Gettysburg, PA

JMT was engaged by the York Adams Transportation Authority and the Gettysburg Area 150th Anniversary Committee to develop a Transportation Management Plan (TMP) for the 150th Anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg. Strategies considered and implemented via the TMP included: temporary satellite parking lots and implementation plans; coordination with the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission and Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) for notification to regional traffic on I-76, I-81 and I-83 to utilize alternative routes to “bypass” the Gettysburg area; a detailed Event Parking Management Plan utilizing a system of portable, changeable message signs and an existing dynamic parking management system at the Gettysburg National Military Park Visitors Center; coordination with PennDOT District 8-0 Traffic Management Center for real-time traffic conditions; and temporary traffic control modifications.

Penn State Subsurface Utility Engineering, Reading, PA

As part of the utility mapping project for the Penn State Berks Campus, JMT was tasked with providing Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) and topographic surveys to augment existing utility information for future design and construction efforts. JMT utilized the standard guidelines for the Collection and Depiction of Existing Subsurface Utility Data (CI/ASCE Standard 38-02) for the collection and depiction of existing subsurface utility information.
