Historic Phoenix Shot Tower Inspection

As part of an on-call contract with the City of Baltimore, JMT provided civil and structural engineering services for the upgrade of the Phoenix Shot Tower.

The Phoenix Shot Tower is an iconic (circa 1821), 223-foot-tall brick tower located near the Inner Harbor and is designated as a National Historic Landmark. The structure is owned by the City of Baltimore and managed by the National Park Service.

JMT conducted structural inspections and evaluations of the brick masonry structure, as well as the timber walkways, stairs, rails, and minor electrical upgrades for lighting. Structural engineering staff investigated the wood and masonry conditions and provided remediation drawings and preservation plans based on in-house archeological expert review, as well as structural assessment criteria.
