Synthetic Turf Replacement for Tylus Field
Synthetic Turf Replacement for Tylus Field
In 2018, JMT replaced the synthetic turf surface that Mark had designed 11 years previous at Franklin & Marshall College’s Tylus Field, which is used for soccer and field hockey.
The infill for this field includes sand and ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM) rubber, a type of rubber made from raw materials instead of recycled rubber. EPDM rubber is more uniform than recycled rubber, though it has similar properties.
The field’s shock pad was temporarily removed in order to regrade the stone base and then reinstalled to provide additional safety for the players.
F&M utilizes their sports fields year-round for college athletics, sports camps, and community events. We designed and constructed this project on a fast-paced schedule so as not to miss any summer events on the field.
