Odd Fellows Road Interchange and Extension

JMT led the design of a new interchange in Lynchburg, VA, as well as roadway and bridge widening and reconstruction, under a design-build contract.

Odd Fellows Road provides access to industrial and commercial properties in Lynchburg, VA. To support local business traffic needs and reduce travel delays, the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) proposed improvements to Odd Fellows Road to upgrade and extend Odd Fellows Road to US 460/29, including a new diamond interchange and two roundabouts.

JMT served as the prime design firm for this design-build project, providing multidisciplinary engineering services, as well as utility coordination and environmental permitting. Highlights included a new, tight diamond interchange between Odd Fellows Road and US 460/29; widening and reconstruction of 1.3 miles of Odd Fellows Road to a three-lane typical section with a two-way left turn lane, curb and gutter, sidewalk, and a 10-foot shared use path; reconstruction and widening of a bridge over the Norfolk Southern Railroad; and construction of two roundabouts along Odd Fellows Road.

The project was completed under an aggressive schedule, which required close weekly coordination between JMT, our contractor partner, VDOT, the City of Lynchburg, and the Federal Highway Administration.

The Odd Fellows Road project received a Merit award for design from the American Council of Engineering Companies of Virginia.
