Reconstruction of MD 462 from MD 132 to Bridge Over Carsins Run

JMT helped complete a roadway project that underwent significant scope changes after the original design was completed by another consultant.

Location

Harford County, MD

Client

MDOT Maryland State Highway Administration

This project involved resurfacing and rehabilitation of nearly one mile of MD 462 (Paradise Road), from MD 132 to Bridge over Carsins Run in the Town of Aberdeen, MD. The project had at one time been placed on hold after final review design documents were submitted by another consultant. The Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) revived the project at a later date, but requested significant changes to be completed quickly by JMT, including adjusting the project limits to incorporate an intersection reconstruction and altering this Fund 77 “book job” project to become a Fund 68 “stimulus funds” project.

JMT worked closely with our MBE design teammate to complete the final plans within an expedited schedule to meet SHA’s schedule for “stimulus” projects. JMT partnered with the SHA’s contractor during construction to address any issues that arose. Our team also partnered with SHA Office of Construction and the contractor to incorporate additional sidewalk improvements at SHA’s request that improved ADA compliance and pedestrian facilities near a high school. Finally, this project required coordination with an adjacent SHA construction project.

For our efforts, JMT received a Maryland Quality Initiative award for Excellence in Partnering.
